The Count of Monte-Cristo (1975)

A TV adaptation of the classic Alexandre Dumas novel. Edmond Dantes is falsely accused by those jealous of his good fortune, and is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in the notorious island prison, Chateau d'If. While imprisoned, he meets the Abbe Faria, a fellow prisoner whom everyone believes to be mad. The Abbe tells Edmond of a fantastic treasure hidden away on a tiny island, that only he knows the location of. After many years in prison, the old Abbe dies, and Edmond escapes disguised as the dead body. Now free, Edmond must find the treasure the Abbe told him of, so he can use the new-found wealth to exact revenge on those who have wronged him.

Edmond Dantes este acuzat pe nedrept de catre cei care erau gelosi pe averea pe care o avea acesta, si este condamnat sa-si petreaca restul zilelor in inchisoarea de pe insula, Chateau d'If. In timpul sederii lui in inchisoare, Edmond il intalneste pe Abbe Faria, un coleg al inchisorii pe care toata lumea il crede nebun. Abbe ii povesteste lui Edmonde despre o comoara fantastica ascunsa pe o insula mica, iar ca el este singurul care stie unde este ingropata comoara. Dupa multi ani petrecuti in inchisoare, batranul Abbe moare, iar Edmond reuseste sa evadeze deghizat in cadavrul lui Abbe. Acum, fiind liber, Edmond trebuie sa gaseasca comoara despre care i-a zis Abbe, pentru a folosi aceasta comoara sa se razbune pe cei care s-au indoit de el si l-au condamnat."
